9.24.11 Lauren and Robert

Thank you Lauren and Robert for including me in your special day!  It was a perfect fall afternoon for an intimate wedding with your amazing families.  You were such a fun group of people to photograph!  Here are some of my favorites from the day.

The View Camera

This weekend I went home to visit my family, photograph a wedding and shoot two assignments for school, one of which had to be done using a studio view camera. The camera and tripod were absolutely massive and I can't imagine what it would have been like years ago when this was the only option. Having three negative carriers meant that I could only make 6 photographs and it took me over an hour to do something that would take less than a second on my Nikon D3s. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I did everything right and will hopefully come away with some good negatives. Here are some photos of this amazing camera.

Alyssa: Class of 2012

I had a great senior portrait session tonight with my cousin Alyssa at Phipps Conservatory and Schenley Park. It was a perfect fall evening for a photo shoot and having great company made it even better! Here are a few of my favorites.

Pittsburgh Air Show

On Saturday I had the opportunity to spend the day with my Dad at the Pittsburgh Air Show. Getting to have a day with just my Dad is a rare occasion because I have three other sisters but when it does happen it's a nice treat. I gave him my old SLR and telephoto lens and we set out to photograph some awesome airplanes. My Dad works in HR but he knew so much about all of the airplanes that it turned out to be a pretty educational day for me. The show was at an air force base and everyone was on high alert because of the 9/11 anniversary on Sunday. Entering the show we were greeted by military personnel carrying M16 assault rifles. It wasn't the warmest welcome but I completely understand.

My favorite part of the show was the heritage pass and this is when a P51 Mustang and an F16 fly side by side. This may not sound too exciting but the P51 is flying as fast as it can while the F16 is flying as slow as it can without stalling just so they can stay side by side. During this pass everyone stood in silence and a few had tears in their eyes. Overall it was a great day and I will definitely be going back next year.

My first blog post!

I am a third year photography student who has started my own photography business and I have been told by so many people that I need to start a blog. I have been putting this off for over year now because it's just one more thing for me to keep up with but I figured I would give it a try. For my business I have been photographing mostly weddings, senior portraits, and families. I am graduating a semester early and I cannot wait to be finished with school (I like it and all but it really isn't my thing). I am seriously considering joining the peace corps for two years after graduation but I still haven't decided. Now that I have shared a little about myself it's time for the fun stuff.... the photographs.

This first series is a project I worked on this summer shortly after I got my new camera. They are all black and white photographs of barns in my area. I have worked on a produce farm since I was 12 years old so I have many great memories in places such as these and farms in general will always hold a special place in my heart.
